Introducing Daycations with North Myrtle Beach!

Are you ready to hop in the Parks and Recreation van with us and visit some cities in the Carolinas? Then Daycations is the program for you. Each month we will be visiting a new city, festival, or attraction to get you out and seeing the beautiful Carolinas through our Daycation Destinations. Our trips are limited to a small group, as we use the Parks and Recreation van to keep costs down.

Friday, November 4th

Awendaw, SC / McClellanville, SC

$60 per person

We will spend the morning at The Center for Birds of Prey in Awendaw, SC with a virtually guided tour, outdoor program, and a flight demonstration. Watch hawks, falcons, owls, eagles, kites, and vultures soar above the flying field. Seeing these birds perform their natural flying and hunting techniques provides a fascinating insight into their unique evolutionary adaptations. The natural behavior of raptors soaring, gliding and diving in close proximity to audiences young and old represent a most unique and memorable learning experience.

Lunch will be on your own at the See Wee Restaurant in Awendaw, SC. We will then spend the afternoon at Hampton Plantation State Historic Site in McClellenville, SC with a guided tour and ample time to view the property. Hampton Plantation was home to many people during colonial and antebellum South Carolina including the Rutledge, Horry, and Pinckney families and the enslaved people who worked on the land. Today, the mansion stands as a testament to the wealth and power of these powerful and influential families as well as the craftsmanship of the builders and laborers who built it and toiled under its shadow. A guided tour of the plantation house will include a study of the architecture and evolution, as seen in the open walls and unfurnished rooms, as well as personal insight into the people that lived and labored at Hampton. The plantation grounds include walking trails through pine forest, views of Wambaw Creek, and the remains of rice fields that once stretched as far as the eye could see.

Registration will open on Wednesday, October 19th at 3 PM.

Please Note: If registration is FULL, please sign up for the waiting list using the same registration button. Waiting lists help us determine interest in the Daycations for future planning and provide the opportunity for additional dates when scheduling permits.
